The Definitive Guide to Mobile SEO
There aren’t a lot of good guides to mobile SEO on the web. We’ve been doing SEO for most of the past decade and we’ve been doing mobile SEO for several years now. We’ve also had a Google alert set for “mobile seo” and other variants for the past couple years so we feel like we’ve seen most of what’s out there and it’s generally lacking.
So we’ve come up with the Definitive Guide to Mobile SEO. So named because it sounds very authoritative and we want people to link to us…but also because we want to create something that really helps people! To that end, please leave comments on where you need more info and we’ll try to fill in any gaps.
The first thing you’ll notice about mobile SEO is that it’s a LOT like regular SEO but with fewer words and less technological sophistication. That’s a pretty apt description of the whole mobile space compared to web actually. So some of this may be new, some not so much, but it’s all true and hopefully this format is useful to you.
- Step 1: Use Mobile Compliant Code – The first step is always to use code the search engines recognize as mobile in nature or you’re sunk before you start.
- Step 2: Mobile Keyword Research – Just like regular keyword research, except for one check box…
- Step 3: On-page Mobile Site Optimization – Do the easy stuff first.
- Step 4: Create a Mobile Site Map – WordPress makes this a snap.
- Step 5: Submit Your Mobile Website – Don’t worry, submitting is still relevant on mobile.
- Step 6: Off-page Mobile Site Optimization – This is where the magic happens, and where you’ll want to hire sub-contractors.
